How We Designed Our Nursery Through Havenly

And it’s been the best choice I could have ever made. I LOVE design…but I’m not great at doing it on my own. Making a firm decision of a color palette might be easy, but building everything around that palette while also finding all the pieces that need to go in a room, well that’s just far too time consuming and overwhelming. I slow clap to the people out there that have full time jobs, care for children, work out, clean their house, AND do their own interior design. That’s a true skill. Havenly is on online interior design company that takes the guesswork out of designing your space. All you have to do is log in, upload info about your space such as dimensions, photos, furniture you already have and would like to use, etc., then you choose room inspo that you like and styles of furniture that you like. This  process is all about getting to know you and your vibe. Then after you plug in all this info, they match you up with a ton of designers, you look through their portfolios, and you pick one! I found The Velvet Jungle when designing our bedroom, my office, our dining room, and living room. I’m truly obsessed with her so I knew she needed to design our nursery.

Once you pick your designer, they will send you 3 ideas for spaces based on the inspiration you first send in. You’ll rate these spaces and you’ll also be able to rate each item in the space, such as a chair, light fixture, or rug. Then your designer will know which path to take and which items to include in your final design. Here are the ideas my designer came up with for nursery!

Idea 2 – Earthy & Cozy

Idea 3 – Colorful & Fun

From all three of these, my favorite was earthy and cozy since I really liked the idea of a black wall. Well, she came up with the first concept and it just wasn’t calling to me for some reason. But I didn’t really know what I wanted to change…until one day when I was scrolling rugs on Wayfair and found a rug that screamed at me. I sent it to The Velvet Jungle and asked her to recreate the room based on that rug. The rug was colorful, lively, and bright, and that’s exactly the room she created! It still had some moody elements to it with darker curtains and pops of black, but it mostly felt bright and beautiful. I instantly fell in love with her concept and immediately bought all the needed items through Havenly! Through the Havenly site, you can purchase all of your items, you’ll receive status updates through Havenly instead of through multiple sites, and you can also deal with any returns through them, as well. It makes the whole process very seamless and easy! Here’s what her room rendering looked like!

And now let’s get into the finished product that I truly don’t think I could love more! That one simple rug inspired it all! I go in  the nursery on a daily basis now just to simply look at it and enjoy every second in it. It brings me so much joy! And I truly could have never done it without Havenly and my amazing designer.

Once we painted the wall and got all the items in, I started making a few changes simply based on the space. Instead of using the Moon Phases Decal that I thought we would use over the crib (she’s supposed to be a Cancer, which is ruled by the moon), we ended putting that somewhere else and went with the much bigger Sun Rising Decal that made a bigger statement. Then we also went with Custom Wall Stripe Decal on the ceiling instead of going with a wallpaper, mostly because I just don’t want to deal with wallpaper, even if it’s simply peel-and-stick. These decals were super easy to put on (coming from the pregnant person who did not have to apply them herself…HA) and will be easy to remove when we move out someday! But man, they make one hell of a beautiful impact. I can’t recommend decals enough!! I would have NEVER thought about putting something on the ceiling and I truly think it brings the whole room together.

Some of the other main items I chose for the room included the Babyletto Convertible Crib, which is Green Guard Certified paired with the Newton Baby Mattress, which is a 100% breathable mattress! Then I purchased a Modern Changing Table and added these beautiful Acrylic & Metallic Storage Bins for tons of diaper storage! We also went with Velvet Curtains to pull more blue into the space to match the ceiling and the rug! And an item that I found on my own before our designer even started designing the room was this Arc Chandelier. I’m pretty sure I saw it through an instagram ad and immediately knew I wanted it in the room since it felt like a rainbow.

We then finished the room off with the most comfortable Monte Vera Glider that you can customize in a ton of different colors and fabrics. We went with the blush velvet and I could not love it more! Both the chair and Vera Ottoman come with customizable bases so obviously I HAD to get gold. Duh. Then we got our girl a new Dresser and Deco Brass Mirror. Our  Havenly designer crushed it with these little touches that really bring the whole room together.

Now my office shares a Jack-and-Jill bathroom with our girl’s nursery so I get to look in at the crib and sunshine decal as I type away at my desk. It’s pretty great.

I think it’s safe to say, this room had a MAJOR glow up. And as always, working with Havenly was so insanely easy.
