Protein shakes have become my best friend in this third trimester. It’s honestly the only thing I want to consumer since it’s normally over 90 degrees out and I have a small window of energy first thing in the morning, before I crash all.day.long. So this protein shake has become my best friend. Not only because it’s easy, but because it tastes sooooo good. That is…if you like peanut butter. Did you know that there are humans out there that DON’T like peanut butter? It’s really unsettling. I missed out on many years of consuming peanut butter when I was strictly paleo and that means I missed many years of beautiful tastebud memories. Shame. Such a shame.
As I type this, I’m currently sitting at a local coffee/juice/smoothie spot, trying to get myself out into the world and soak up some time at bougie spots before the babe comes. The coffee shop I’m at has brownies made from beets and overpriced overnight oats and fresh pressed juices…do I need any of these things? No. Will I buy them? Yes. Because they make me feel like the person I was before pregnancy – always trying new spots and exploring Denver. But during pregnancy, I’ve been down for the count. I’m 38 weeks pregnant this week so I’m getting my ass kicked with fatigue…and sciatica. So lying on my side, on the couch, while watching documentaries like ‘Captive’ or reality shows like ‘Alone’ on Netflix has become my new daily ritual. I just love documentaries sooooo much. Real life stories are so much more intriguing to me than fictional ones. And watching real life stories while eating overpriced overnight oats is the closest thing I can get to my old life, so I’ll take it!
Speaking of old life, something I’ve totally left behind from my old life is hating salads. I looooove salads now. Love them. Like eat them every day now. As I’ve been sitting at this coffee shop, I have been planning out my salad for dinner tonight. Who am I? Thinking about something with beets, bacon, cheddar, and who knows what else. But salads and smoothies are two of the things that are keeping me somewhat nourished in these last few weeks. It’s really weird that one day you go from worrying about how you’ll pay your rent and how stupid salads are, to a person who has made the conscious choice to bring a human into the world while they plan out their salad choices for the week. Life is a wild salad ride.
